Dr. L. Kevin Wells, a native of Mississippi, earned his bachelor of science from Mississippi College and his doctorate of dental medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Following dental school, he completed a residency in general practice dentistry in Columbus, OH, where he later entered private practice. He then pursued specialty training in endodontics at Ohio State University, where he earned both a master's degree and a certificate of graduate studies in endodontics. His master's research was published in the Journal of Endodontics.
Dr. Wells is married to Dr. Martha Wells, who serves as chief of dentistry at St. Jude Children's Hospital. They have three children: Luke, Sam, and Juliet. Outside of work, Dr. Wells enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing golf.
Dr. Wells is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Endodontics, the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association, the Memphis Dental Society, and the Tennessee Association of Endodontists.
In 2013, Dr. Wells was honored with the "Outstanding Young Dentist of the Year Award" from the Memphis Dental Society in recognition of his contributions to organized dentistry in the Memphis community. He has also been inducted into the Richard Doggett Dean Honor Society at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Dr. Wells has served on the board of the Memphis Dental Society and held the position of president for the 2022 – 2023 term.
I was referred to Dr. Wells by a top dentist in Memphis. I live in Chicago but am in the area working but would travel back here if needed for a root canal or any other tooth issues I may have, now or in the future. I could not have gotten luckier. Dr. Wells, at the Kirby location, was one of the smartest, kindest, most honest, professional and experienced people I have ever met. Because of a very bad experience many, many years ago, I was terrified of root canals. Recently, I had to have a root canal and was referred to Dr. Wells. When I met Dr. Wells, he wanted to know about my bad experience and was so understanding. He explained the procedure to me and I was surprised the procedure was painless and took little time. Dr Kevin Wells was amazing performing my root canal. I was petrified going in, having heard so many horror stories. He explained everything to me what he was doing during the procedure which was very comforting. His assistant calmed me, as well. I hope it's the only root canal I'll ever have, but if I have another one I'll definitely go to him again. I felt so good after that I put together a lawn mower, cut the yard, cleaned the gutters, washed a car and went to see a movie. Thanks, Dr Wells, and thanks also to your staff.
Dr. Wells is an excellent endodontist! He and his staff were so caring and professional when I had my root canal. He explained every step as he did the procedure which made me feel comfortable. I would recommend him and this practice without reservation.
